So Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy debuted this weekend, and boy, did it break the bank.

The film scored a whopping $94 million domestically, and an additional $66.4 million across 42 international markets, resulting in a mind-blowing $160.4 across the globe.

The movie shattered August box office records in North America, and took the top spot for the number one film in America, dethroning Lucy, which is still going strong at $79.6 million.

About the Guardians

Guardians of the Galaxy centers around a motley crew of unlikely heroes as they struggle to save the galaxy from the evil Ronan. After stealing a strange orb, Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, will have to join forces with a group of outlaws in the form of a talking raccoon, a grief-stricken warrior, a beautiful assassin, and a talking tree-man.

To many, this film is something of a blessing, as the Guardians initially started off as a comic book that didn’t really catch the attention of too many, but possessed the unfailing love and loyalty of those that did like it.

Many may not realize that this is in fact a Marvel movie that doesn’t focus around superheroes so much as ordinary people put into extraordinary situations. Full of awesome action sequences and plenty of snark, Guardians of the Galaxy is sure to be a film that wraps up the summer nicely.
