After his apology on June 1st for a 5-year-old video in which he told a racist joke involving African-Americans, a second video surfaced.
The video was shot when he was 14 years old and shows him singing a parody of his own song, “One Less Lonely Girl” in which he changed the word “girl” into the N-word.
To make matters worse, he also joked about joining the Ku Klux Klan. Seriously, Justin?
Bieber’s representatives told TMZ.com Wednesday that they wanted the second video’s presence known so that Justin could take responsibility for his actions.
Supposedly, the singer had told his mentor, R&B singer Usher, and his friend, actor Will Smith, years ago about this second video, and that he had realized quickly he had crossed a serious cultural line.
His second apology this week comes after “The Sun” published the aforementioned video several day ago. Speaking to the British newspaper Bieber said that facing up to the mistakes of his past was one of the hardest things he had ever had to deal with and that he never intended for his fans to think he was condoning racism.
“I just hope that the next 14-year-old kid who doesn’t understand the power of these words does not make the same mistakes I made years ago. At the end of the day I just need to step up and own what I did. Once again, I am sorry for all those I have let down and offended.”
The British newspaper claims that people around Bieber have known about the clip for some time and have spent money keeping it out of the public eye for a long time, but the clip surfaced anyway.
These videos come after a difficult year for the singer. A judge in Florida recently delayed his trial on charges of driving under the influence until July. The pop star faces charges of resisting arrest and driving with an expired licence. He is also facing a separate assault charge after being accused of hitting a limousine driver on the back of the head.
As old stains are hard to remove and new clothes are easy to buy, maybe the singer can try and read Andersen’s short tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes”. Some powerful stuff there.
